Quick release couplings (QRC) are a quick and easy way to connect your pipework system to air tools and hoses. The quick release coupling is attached to the compressed air supply (usually to the hard metal pipework system). Air tools are then connected to the air system though the quick release coupling using a matched plug half. The QRC has two main functions. 1/ to create a leak free seal to the hose/airtool 2/ to seal the outlet / allow air to flow when the plug half is connected.
To connect the hose to the QRC simply push the plug half into the QRC. This may take a little force to achieve the correct joint. Pushing the plug half into the QRC simultaneously locks the joint and releases the compressed air. To remove the plug half simply slide the sleeve on the QRC towards the body and the plug half will pop out. The QRC will automatically stop the air flow at the same time.
There are many different types of quick release coupling available. The different designs are mostly suited to different applications eg High flow, breathing air, high pressure. However different countries / regions use different types of QRC. A plug half will only fit in the same type of QRC.
In the UK typical QRC are series 19 (standard flow) and series 25 (high flow). Check which type of QRC / plug half you are using before purchasing new ones. Many companys follow good practice and use different QRC’s for different compressed gas types. Eg Breathing air will use a different QRC to workshop air or to oil free air so you cannot connect to the wrong air supply.
